It is really difficult to brew coffee without having some coffee ground sneak through the press and float to the top. I got this cup in hopes to save money from buying coffee. So far, it has paid off, so for the price it's worth it. I've learned to swallow some coffee ground when I drink it, so if you're more particular about your coffee, this is not for you. Works great with tea.
I bought this because I thought it was a great idea. For one it is 16 ounces which is larger than the standard single serving type presses so you can get a nice large coffee out of this. I bought a small fine mesh strainer that I pour the coffee out of this press through into my coffee cup to get rid of the offending grounds, and it works great. However because this is plastic they had to use a rubber seal around the plunger and it lets grinds past no matter how slow you go or how coarse the grind is. It would also be nice for traveling as it is non breakable so your luggage won't be full of glass when you get there. The grinds seem to stick to the plastic a bit and the seal just wipes past them. Just press the coffee and drink. Also it is all plastic so it is much more durable than a glass press.
I know with any press you are going to get a few unwanted grounds but this one lets an exponential amount by when compared to my glass press. I gave this 3 stars because it is still useful. So this is a nice large single serving press if you are at home or work and want to also invest in a strainer and have a second cup to pour into. I would not recommend trying to use this on the go like it seems to be designed for.
My daughter thought she had hit jackpot when she found these travel presses. She was quickly disappointed when she realized the silicone around the screen does not keep the grounds out of her coffee.
It serves its purpose well and we are overall satisfied with it. We've seen other people on the train with them as well.
We read all of the directions and used it correctly. Our first mug cracked but did not leak with the first usage.
The new mug has not cracked yet and he uses it almost everyday. My husband continued to use the cracked mug (since it was not leaking) until the replacement arrived a month later from Bodum.
During that waiting period the original mug did not crack again. We use a coarse grind on the coffee but some stray grounds do make it into the cup.
I do however wish it were glass and not plastic.
This product came quick and plus I use this every morning. I love what it says on it. Very unique.
